Mevo Wired and Wireless Webcam Mode (Beta)

Apple M1 Products

Mevo webcam mode is not currently compatible with M1 products, we are actively working to ensure future compatibility.

As of July 27th, 2020, you can now use your Mevo as a web camera. This enables you to use any of your Mevo cameras with your favorite software. e.g. Video conferencing software such as Zoom, Google Meet, and Discord or Video Switching software like Livestream Studio, vMix, and OBS. The webcam feature is still in its early stages so you'll notice a some limitations but we can assure you we are working diligently to add features, functionality and compatibility across Mevo (Gen 1), Mevo Plus, and Mevo Start.

Please note that there are compatibility limitations with certain 3rd party software and specific Mevo models, so please read through the all of directions and limitations below before setting up your Mevo  as a web camera.

UVC stands for "USB Video Class" which is a USB driver for cameras to be used via USB. This allows the Mevo Start to be used as a wired webcam. UVC functionality requires that Mevo Start is plugged in to your computer similar to how you would use a traditional webcam. Note that you will no longer be able to record or stream while using the Mevo Start as a wired webcam. No downloads are necessary.

Device Requirements

- Available for all Mevo at 720p(Mevo 1st Gen and Mevo Plus require external audio)
- Mevo app version 2.1 or newer
- Mevo Start firmware 1.1.62 or newer
- Destination device must accept UVC 1.0 to recognize the Mevo as a webcam via USB.

How do I enable it?

  1. Connect your Mevo to the Mevo App to ensure you have the latest updates.

  2. Enable in Mevo App (demonstrated below)

  3. Plug it in via USB and your system will handle it all for you.

No prompts are present. You can confirm your Mac system sees your Mevo Start by going to

About This Mac > System Report > Camera

Your Mevo Start will be listed there as a camera source.

  4. Select it as your video source in the app of your choice (example: Zoom)

Platforms UVC has been tested with

Troubleshooting Steps

I don't see my Mevo + Mevo Boost when using wired webcam mode.
Mevo must be directly connected to your computer to use the Mevo as a webcam. This means you can't use your Mevo as a webcam when attached to the Mevo Boost.
Zoom only sees my audio, not my video or nothing at all?
Check that you are running the latest Zoom software version as they released an update to allow products to work with it including the Mevo.
My Mac has a USB-C port and it isn't detecting my Mevo Start
This is a known issue we are working on, currently the workaround is to simply flip and insert your USB-C cable or reinsert the cable until it is detected.

  • why the mevo for windows is keeping too long?

  • Are there any updates for the wireless Windows driver?

  • when you will launch the drive for windows, because we are already at the end of the year and nothing, I bought the camera, but I can't use all its potential, for example in the obs elano webcan mode only with 480p resolution, in the mec system I can still do it in 1080 May, since it goes up to 4K, you have to see it, for what I know to use it in 4K I have to compare an expensive program, then it doesn't pay, please release it to use in 4k in obs.

  • You got 2 months left in 2020... How's that windows app coming??

  • You got 2 months left in 2020...

  • Thank you so much to the Mevo team,

Seeing this update to the Mevos capabilities is wonderful. Keep working at it. I’m going to be launching into streaming soon and this update has eliminated my need to go out and purchase another wired cam. Or mess around with RTMP.

I sincerely appreciate the work going into this camera, and hope the update is out of beta by time I go into streaming. My community is on discord and I have worked really hard to get all the pieces in place for launch. We are already in discussion with a much larger community to help us source our audience. I’d be super happy and stoked to get the Mevo name out there, with the way you all have listened to your community the way you have. Keep up all the hard work!

  • Has Mevo made a virtual cam server for the Mevo Plus (Windows)? I need one real bad - thanks.

  • I assume can use the webcam function wired in without the windows app?

  • This might not be used to anyone, but I thought I should share this. I to use my Mevo cam with the new USB beta functionality on my MacBook (Big Sur OS). At the time, the Mevo camera was mounted on a Mevo Boost. Result: Not working at all, no connection. Then, I tried it again, this time without the Mevo Boost, and it worked well on ZOOM, Facetime.

  • Guessing you might want to change the information to say: "Coming 2021" or maybe "Coming   ̶2̶0̶2̶0̶  Soon"

  • Now that I bought both the Mevo Start and a Pivo, I really need to use the Mevo as a webcam wirelessly. If I "wire" it, I can't use rotate the Mevo. This should be a priority since it was promised in 2020.

  • are there any known issues with iOS Big Sur or the new Apple M1 chip?

I am not able to use the Mevo as webcam (wired) on my new computer. But, I've tried on my partners (not so) old computer running both Catalina and Mohave and have no issues with selecting the camera and microphone in Zoom with the Mevo wired webcam. I've tried it with an older version of Zoom as well as an up-to-date-version of zoom in the older iOS's and no problem either way...

I can use it wireless but there's too much of a delay between sound and audio - my wifi I guess?

  • I can't get wired OR wireless webcam mode working on a new MacBook Air with Big Sur and Apple Silicon - but it works on my older Air with Big Sur and an Intel chip.

Is this a known issue? And if yes, what's the ETA for a fix.

We got the Mevo and the new laptop together so we could setup a new streaming rig - and there was nothing in the documentation about this NOT working with Apple Silicon-based laptops.

    Please advise.

  • Just going out on a limb here. The original drivers for x86 cpus - Intel/AMD - was in beta this past year. I highly doubt that a major change in cpu architecture would be supported by the same driver especially not anytime soon. Kind of like trying to get this thing to run on an old PowerPC mac - it is not going to work.

  • como puedo obtener el controlador UVC para windows 10?

  • I waited when I got the W10 webcam. I thought that if it was too long, I would have sold it to other people.

  • In case it is of interest, I've checked back a number of times to find out if the Windows wireless webcam app is ready yet as it is key to my decision to make a purchase. I can see a really good use for Mevo if it existed, an improvement on my current setup, but don't see much of an advantage of investing in Mevo without it.

I would appreciate an indication as to when it will be ready so I know when to check back again. Or maybe you could collect email addresses to register an interest, and you could tell us when it is available for download?

  • Well, they are not that strong when it comes to communication.

  • The last notes that I see are that an M1 Apple Chip version will be available soon - that was July 2020 - almost 10 months ago. God can make a baby in 9 months, surely you can tell us that you at least gotten a piece of BETA code that we can test for Wired WebCam??

At the very least can you give us a general time line? You have a GREAT CAMERA, and they are certainly NOT FREE - customer service is all about COMMUNICATIONS - do you think you could COMMUNICATE how things are coming along - really appreciate - we have "3" of your camera's, so our investment in your technology is not minor.

  • Hey dev team, it's been five months for me. Any updates on the wireless webcam for Windows? Hope you're doing OK.

  • I keep getting ads for this on Facebook, and today I finally clicked on one. It seems really neat, so went to Amazon and was about to buy with the one-click button on Amazon. Then I figured I check how it does as a webcam (b/c that would be my primary use case) and landed on this post.

The lack of response, and the fact that webcam support for Mac is still just lingering in Beta, changed my mind. I'm sure I'll check back periodically to see if there is progress here, but until Mevo seems to be taking this use case seriously, I'm not going to buy.
