Why Is My Recording Split Into Multiple Files?

Why Are My Recordings Split Into Multiple Files?

If you're recording to a microSD card and notice that your single event is broken up into multiple files, this is expected behavior. Mevo cameras automatically split long recordings to help prevent data corruption. This safeguard ensures your footage is preserved even if something interrupts the recording.

Typically, the camera will split files at a predetermined duration, but in some cases, it may do so earlier as a precaution. Shorter file segments may occur based on memory card health, available space, or internal error prevention mechanisms.

Why did my file split earlier than expected?

Files may split before the typical duration limit if the camera detects anything that could risk corruption. These splits are automatic and happen to protect the footage, even if the expected time hasn’t been reached.

microSD Card Format Considerations

The format of your microSD card plays a role in how recordings are stored. Cards formatted in FAT32 are limited to smaller individual file sizes, which can result in more frequent splitting. For best performance, we recommend formatting your card to exFAT.

Troubleshooting & Additional Info

Can I turn this off?
File splitting is a built-in safety feature and cannot be disabled. It's designed to protect your recordings and prevent full session loss in case of a device issue or card failure.
