All Mevo have many ways to use and control audio sources. The Mevo has the advanced internal audio and many options for external audio sources. With so many input options the Mevo app provides you the ability to control each audio source individually as well as as a whole through the Audio Mixer function.
Controlling Mevo Audio
The Mevo app has a simple built-in Audio Mixer that allows you to control audio levels for your production before being sent to your audience. To adjust your audio source and levels, tap the More Options (•••) icon in the bottom right corner.
Tap the microphone icon on the left side of the panel to enter the audio mixer.
Output
Anything located in the (2) area of this graphic is controlled by the output. Any adjustments made in (1) will effect (2) as a whole.
- The bottom of this panel will show a slider, mute button, and levels monitor for your audio Output, which is the audio your audience will hear. By default, this includes a mix of the Mevo camera's built-in microphone and your primary mobile device's microphone or a plugged-in audio source.
- Below the Output are sliders, Mute options, and Level Monitors for both the Mevo built-in microphone ("Mevo") and your mobile device's microphone or plugged-in audio source ("iPhone Microphone" - this may be labeled as "iPad microphone" or "Phone microphone" depending on the device you are using). Both of these are sending audio to the program output by default.
For each source, you can drag the slider to adjust the audio levels; dragging it left will lower the audio levels while dragging it right will make that source louder.
You can also mute that source entirely by tapping the microphone icon to the right of it; the corresponding levels monitor will indicate there is no audio being sent out.
A general best practice is for your audio levels to peak about halfway to two-thirds of the way up the levels bar. This ensures a clear, audible sound that is not too loud.
Audio that is over modulating is generally indicated by the top notches flashing red. This means you should lower your audio levels by dragging the audio slider to the left.
Mevo Audio Inputs
All Mevo can edit what inputs they can see in their Audio Mixer. This ranges from your mobile device microphone to external inputs like the Mevo Mic App or audio from a USB source. By tapping Edit Inputs you will be brought to a screen to that displays all inputs that are connected and detected by your Mevo.
Any source that is visible to the Mevo via a network or physical input such as USB will be visible here.

Unique Audio Settings
The Mevo 1st Generation/Mevo Plus share a few unique settings from the the Mevo Start as does the Mevo Start with the advanced audio processing. You can click your model of Mevo below for settings specific to you.
Mevo Start Audio Processing Options
The Mevo Start has a few advanced audio processing options to choose from. To view these options in the Mevo Audio Mixer just press the arrow next to your Mevo and you will see additional options like below.
Audio Processing
- General- This is the best option if you have a mix of both music and speech. It has minimal noise reduction and reverberation removal.
- Music- This is meant to capture a wide frequency range perfect for recording music. Noise reduction is off to avoid distortion.
- Speech- This uses all 3 internal microphones to estimate where the sound is coming from and then focuses on the detected audio and gives a high signal to noise ratio. This is called beam-forming. It reduces unwanted sound originating from behind the Mevo Start. This option has a high level of noise reduction and reverberation removal.
- Wind- Like speech mode this mode uses all 3 microphones to measure the intensity and frequency of wind hitting the Mevo mics. From there, the algorithm reduces/removes unwanted noise.
Auto Gain Control (AGC)
Automatic gain control will adjust the gain to give an consistent output to your viewers when the detected sound level varies. This setting will affect the audio processing options differently.
- Music- If AGC is enabled when using the music processing option the AGC will adjust slower than the other processing options. This is done to avoid an unbalanced audio affect.
- Speech- If AGC is enabled when using the speech processing option the AGC will adapt more aggressively than the other processing options to ensure the speech is delivered at the highest quality.
Mevo 1st Gen/Mevo Plus Audio Processing Options
If you are using the Mevo’s built-in microphone, be sure to place the Mevo close to your subjects, ideally about five feet away. The Mevo and its built-in mic work best when it is close to the action.
The Mevo’s microphone is directional to space directly in front of it, but may still pick up general room noise. The closer the mic is to your subjects, the more it will filter out noise or chatter behind or to the side of it. The microphone will also follow the direction of your live edits; if you crop to a shot on the left side of the field of view, the microphone will adjust its directional focus accordingly.
The built-in microphone has configurable modes for enhanced performance depending on your environment. In the live edit view, tap More Options (•••) in the lower right corner.
Then the gearwheel icon to open the settings menu.
Navigate to the Audio & Video menu.
- In the Built-In Microphone section is the Audio Enhancements option, which is off by default. Tap the toggle switch to enable it and see more options.
You will notice two modes:
- Music: Keeps the full frequency just like the default setting, but this setting adds some filtering and dynamic range compressions to prevent peaking from louder signals.
- Speech: Adds a low pass filter to increase clarity.
If you enable Speech mode, you will see an additional option for Noise Cancelation. Enabling this will help in environments when background noise (e.g street traffic, HVAC) can make it harder to hear the person speaking.
-
The Mic Pad setting. This gives you the option to lower the decibels of the incoming audio, allowing the Mevo microphone to record loud audio without overmodulating.
- Echo Suppression is a handy feature for customers using the headphone jack or the built-in mobile device microphone to bring in audio. In addition, customers monitoring their audio via the Mevo app should also turn on this feature to prevent audio feedback from playing back in their stream and/or recording.
This feature is only available for iOS Devices. -
Now you will find the "Mix all channels" toggle switch if using a USB audio source. You can read more about using a USB source with your Mevo 1/Plus by clicking here.
When it is OFF, the device providing a mono signal as you can see remains mono.Things you should know:
Having the "Mix audio channel" feature ON has these effects.
- Source is Mono- The channel is duplicated in both left and right channels for a stereo like experience.
- Source is Stereo- Both channels are duplicated in both the left and right channels.
If the "Mix audio channel" feature is OFF this is the outcome.
- Source is Mono- The audio will only be in the one channel.
- Source is Stereo- The audio will remain as stereo.
