This article covers how streaming might be interrupted if you minimize the Mevo apps, whether you can run the Mevo app in the background, and how streaming behaves when you receive phone calls. We’ll also clarify distance limitations and discuss iOS vs. Android differences.
Minimizing the Mevo App
Depending on your mobile device (iOS or Android) and how your camera is connected (cellular, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or hotspot), minimizing the Mevo app can interrupt your stream. The tables below detail whether you can safely switch away from the app or walk away from the camera while streaming.
Is a mobile hotspot considered cellular?
Any time your mobile device running the Mevo app is also your internet source via a 4G/LTE connection, it’s considered “Cellular.” A mobile hotspot that outputs a Wi-Fi signal (even if it receives its data via cellular) counts as “Wi-Fi” for connection purposes.
App | Mevo Multicam | Mevo Multicam | Mevo Single Cam | Mevo Single Cam |
---|---|---|---|---|
Connection Type | Cellular | Wi-Fi/Ethernet | Cellular | Wi-Fi/Ethernet |
iOS | No *Stage Manager | No *Stage Manager | No *Stage Manager | Yes |
Android | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Logitech Mevo Single Camera App
When using the Single Cam app, the Mevo camera itself handles encoding. However, if you use a cellular data connection on iOS, the feed goes through your mobile device. Consequently, the app must remain in the foreground on iOS.
*Android allows this in the background, iOS does not.
Logitech Mevo Multicam App
When using Mevo Multicam, your mobile device is the encoder. Therefore, the app must stay active on iOS to process the video feed. Minimizing it on iOS can end the stream unless you use Stage Manager on compatible iPads.
*Android allows this in the background, iOS does not.
*Stage Manager
Stage Manager is an iPad multitasking feature (for iPads with M1 chips or newer, running iOS 16 or later). If you enable Stage Manager, it lets you keep multiple apps active simultaneously, meaning you can minimize the Mevo app without ending the stream.

Can I Walk Away If I Can Minimize the App?
Even if you can safely minimize the Mevo app in some scenarios, walking away from the camera might disrupt your stream if you lose the connection between your camera and mobile device. The table below summarizes whether you can walk away or not.
App | Mevo Multicam | Mevo Multicam | Mevo Single Cam | Mevo Single Cam |
---|---|---|---|---|
Connection Type | Cellular | Wi-Fi/Ethernet | Cellular | Wi-Fi/Ethernet |
iOS | No | No | No | Yes |
Android | No | No | No | Yes |
When using Mevo Multicam, the mobile device is encoding the stream. If you walk away beyond the reliable range (around 100 feet in ideal conditions), your camera’s signal may not reach the device, causing the stream to drop.
100ft Limitation
The 100-foot range for Mevo is based on ideal conditions. Real-world range may vary due to obstacles, internet quality, and other environmental factors.
Running the Mevo App in the Background While Streaming
iOS devices continue streaming if the camera is connected to a local Wi-Fi network. However, if you’re using the Mevo camera’s built-in hotspot on iOS and you navigate away, the stream will end. Android devices generally allow the stream to continue even if you switch away from the Mevo app.
If you anticipate using other apps during a broadcast, consider configuring your Mevo camera to connect to a local Wi-Fi network or Ethernet . This ensures a stable stream if you need to use other applications.
Using the Mevo App While on a Call
iOS
If your device is running iOS 10.3.2 or later, you can accept a call while streaming. However, if you're connected via the Mevo camera’s Hotspot (and using 4G/LTE), you can’t navigate away from the call without ending the stream. Once you end the call, your device returns you to the Mevo app, and the stream continues.
If you’re streaming via Wi-Fi or Ethernet, your stream remains active even if you take or leave a call, but you cannot open the Mevo app again until the call ends.
If you use an audio source connected to your iOS device via the headphone jack or lightning port , your stream’s audio will be muted until the call ends. This does not affect audio captured by the camera’s internal microphones or USB-connected audio sources.
Android
On Android, you can continue using the Mevo app if a call comes in, as long as you don’t press the Back button. Tapping the Home button will let the camera continue streaming in the background. You can return to the Mevo app once your call ends or at any time by navigating back into it.
