Warning: Not for Mevo Plus or 1st Gen
Attempting this process with a Mevo Plus or Mevo (1st Gen) could damage the device. Follow the correct recovery guide for those models here.
If your Mevo Start camera is unresponsive—such as not powering on, not entering hotspot mode, or only showing a constant white LED—this recovery process may help. It should only be used as a last resort after consulting with Mevo support.
We recommend opening a support ticket to confirm if this recovery method is appropriate before proceeding.
- Insert the microSD card from your Mevo Start into your Windows computer.
- Download the recovery file here.
- Right-click the
mevo_recovery.zip
file and choose “Extract All.” - Click Extract.
- Click Next.
- Drag the extracted
.mevo_start_recovery
folder to your microSD card. - Safely remove the microSD card.
- Make sure your Mevo Start is powered off. Insert the microSD card and turn the camera on.
- When the LED turns solid white, the camera has successfully read the recovery files.
- Press and hold the reset button (bottom of the camera) until the LED starts flashing, then release.
- Once the camera reboots, you should see a pulsing blue LED indicating it's in hotspot mode.
Troubleshooting
Don’t see the
.mevo_start_recovery
folder?Enable hidden files in File Explorer:
- Search for “File Explorer Options” in Windows Search.
- Click the View tab.
- Select Show hidden files, folders, and drives.
- Click Apply.

- Insert your microSD card into your Mac using an adapter or SD slot.
- Download the recovery file here.
- Copy the
mevo_recovery.zip
file to your SD card. - Double-click the ZIP file to extract it.
- Press
Command + Shift + .
to show hidden files, and locate.mevo_start_recovery
. - Press
Command + Shift + .
again to hide hidden files. - Safely eject the SD card from your Mac.
- Insert the card into your powered-off Mevo Start and turn it on.
- When the LED turns solid white, the camera is reading the recovery files.
- Press and hold the reset button on the bottom of the device until the LED flashes, then release.
- After rebooting, the LED should pulse blue to indicate hotspot mode.
