To produce a stream with the best-available quality and stability for your viewers, you should carefully select your streaming quality based on your internet connection.
Step 1: Open the Streaming Menu
In the live edit view, tap the red button in the bottom left corner and choose whether you'd like to Record or Stream to one of your available destinations.
When going live, you’ll have the following resolution options:
- 1080p (1920×1080)
- 720p (1280×720)
- 480p (853×480)
- 360p (640×360)
Each resolution has a range of bitrates that adjust dynamically depending on your available upload speed. Refer to the chart below for bitrate guidance.
Step 2: Test Your Internet Speed
You can test your upload speed at speedtest.net or by downloading the Speedtest app.
For best results, choose a bitrate that is roughly half of your tested upload speed.
It's better to choose a slightly lower resolution where your connection can consistently reach the maximum bitrate, rather than a higher resolution where you're barely hitting the minimum bitrate. For example, if your upload speed is 0.9 Mbps, a 720p stream will appear pixelated, whereas 480p at the same bitrate will look much cleaner.
Step 3: Contact Your Internet Provider If Needed
If your upload speed is not high enough to support reliable streaming, reach out to your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to ask about increasing your available bandwidth.
Connectivity Best Practices
For a smooth and stable stream, we recommend an upload speed of at least 5–10 Mbps, ideally on a dedicated connection not shared with other devices.
If you are using the Mevo Boost, we highly recommend using the built-in Ethernet port for the most reliable connection.
