I'm on a School or Corporate Network. How Should I Configure my Network?

Larger or more complex networks—typical in schools, corporations, hotels, or convention centers— often use strict security settings that can interfere with streaming. To ensure your Mevo camera communicates properly with both your mobile device and external streaming destinations, certain ports and protocols must be allowed through the network firewall.

Ports for Camera & App Communication

When connecting the camera to the Mevo app via Wi-Fi, make sure these ports are open on your network:

  • TCP 38000
  • TCP 38001
  • UDP 61000–63000 (port range)

These ports enable the local back-and-forth traffic needed for your Mevo camera and the Mevo app to synchronize video, audio, and control signals.

Ports for Streaming

Streaming involves two-way communication between your local network and the remote server that receives the stream. To keep your stream stable, configure your firewall to allow incoming and outgoing communication on the following ports:

  • TCP 1935 (commonly used by RTMP/RTMPS streaming)
  • TCP 80 (HTTP)
  • TCP 443 (HTTPS)
  • UDP 53 (DNS)
  • UDP 2088 (used by some streaming platforms and services)

Each of these protocols ensures your camera can maintain a reliable connection for streaming video and audio to your chosen live platform.

Bonjour Service

Bonjour (also known as mDNS) is an Apple networking technology that allows devices on the same network to automatically discover each other. In the case of Mevo, your camera and mobile device rely on Bonjour to establish a connection.

Ensure your network allows Bonjour traffic so that the Mevo app can detect and communicate with your camera. If Bonjour is blocked or disabled, the Mevo app may be unable to locate the camera on your network.

Summary

By allowing the correct ports and enabling Bonjour, you reduce the chance of dropped streams or failed connections in enterprise or institution-level networks. Verify these settings with your IT department or network administrator to ensure a smooth experience.
