Neither Mevo Start nor Mevo Core cameras come with a microSD card. You will need to provide your own before recording or saving content. We strongly recommend purchasing a reputable, name-brand card (e.g. SanDisk, Samsung, Lexar) to avoid issues that often arise with unverified “high-capacity” or no-name cards.
Tip: Avoid Generic/No-Name Cards
Ultra-cheap microSD cards claiming unreal capacities (e.g. 1 TB for $20) frequently fail in Mevo cameras. Choose trusted, name-brand cards rated U3/A2 for reliability and performance.
Formatting with the Mevo App
We recommend formatting your microSD card directly in the Mevo app whenever possible. This ensures your card is prepared with optimal settings for Mevo Start and Mevo Core.
- Connect your Mevo Start or Mevo Core to the Mevo app .
- Tap the gear icon in the main menu to open General Settings.
- Scroll down to Storage > Format SD card.
- Confirm you want to format. Formatting erases all data, so only proceed if you have backed up any important files.
Formatting on a Mac
Although formatting within the Mevo app is preferred, you can format via desktop if needed. exFAT is recommended—FAT32 works for smaller cards but can cause more frequent file splitting.
- Insert the microSD card into an SD adapter.
- Connect the adapter to your Mac (or use a built-in SD card slot).
- Open Disk Utility (search in Spotlight or find under Applications > Utilities).
- Select the SD card under External, then click Erase.
- Enter a name for the card, choose exFAT as the format, and Master Boot Record as the scheme. Then click Erase.
- Safely eject the card (e.g., right-click > Eject) before removing it from your Mac.
Formatting on Windows
Although formatting within the Mevo app is preferred, you can format via desktop if needed. exFAT is recommended—FAT32 works for smaller cards but can cause more frequent file splitting.
- Insert the microSD card into an SD adapter.
- Connect the adapter to your PC (or use a built-in SD card slot).
- In File Explorer, right-click the SD card drive and select Format.
- Choose exFAT under File system, then click Start.
- Safely eject the card before removing it from your computer once formatting completes.
